Online marketing: Megatrends for 2018

Here are the Online Marketing trends for 2018. It is time to take the crystal ball out of the drawer and think about the novelties that will bring the next 12 months to our sector; that of marketers, advertisers and communicators who work in this exciting and changing environment.

In Cyberclick we have reviewed the studies and reflected on the predictions of digital marketing in different areas to be more prepared than ever. That’s why I want to share with you the 10 mega marketing trends for 2018. Are you ready? Let’s go!

Online marketing trends for 2018

1) The marketing of micro-influences

At this point, influencer marketing is nothing new. The new generations no longer admire the idols of cinema and television, but Youtubers and Instagramers who have known how to market their brand on social networks. The most prominent have millions of followers and usually charge quite astronomical fees to talk about a brand in their publications.

But even small and medium enterprises can take advantage of the micro influencer marketing trend. Micro influencers are those social network personalities with smaller audiences (usually a few thousand people), but who are experts in a very particular niche market. Therefore, they have loyal followers willing to adopt their recommendations and spread the word. You only have to locate the most suitable for your company.

2) Podcasting

Sometimes I get the impression that online marketing trends are a bit like fashion in jeans: the old always comes back and is recycled. And this is precisely the case of podcasting, a digital twist to the old radio.

Podcasts are online programs that are recorded, hung on the network and can be downloaded or listened to online at any time, as a kind of asynchronous radio.

For brands, this novelty in marketing offers the possibility of easily producing and editing programmes, which consumers will then listen to by taking advantage of their moments of relaxation or the gaps in their daily routine, for example, on the way to work.

3) Video ads

And speaking of video, another of the digital marketing trends that will hit hard in 2018 are video ads or video marketing.

According to Cisco predictions, in 2019 80% of the global consumption of content on the Internet will be in video format. Video is becoming more and more popular among consumers, and this is great news for brands, as it has great power to excite and call to action.

There are already different social networking platforms that have specific video solutions within their advertising; in particular, Facebook is especially suitable for launching video ads. Also, don’t forget that you also have the option to upload videos as part of your Instagram Stories. Now all that’s left to do is turn the creativity around to make sure that your video ads have the maximum impact.

4) Ephemeral marketing

Millennials no longer need their publications to be stored forever; on the contrary, as they are very jealous of their privacy, they prefer ephemeral content such as Instagram Stories and Snapchat.

For brands, ephemeral marketing is a trend full of possibilities. In addition to publishing content through the two networks mentioned above, it is also possible to make use of their advertising solutions to publish sponsored ephemeral content. This is a golden opportunity to give users access to the secrets of our brand, show our most human side and create a sense of urgency through promotions with an expiration date.

5) Instant messaging apps

WhatsApp, WeChat, Line, Telegram, Messenger… In recent years, instant messaging apps have become an indispensable part of our daily lives.

This online marketing trend is fundamental to brand plans. We have to learn to connect with our users wherever they are, speaking their own language. And it’s clear that users are on these platforms.

My prediction is that in 2018 we will see more and more marketing actions focused on these types of applications, either as a channel for customer service, to launch offers or to create a feeling of community and belonging to the brand through more or less exclusive groups. It will also be very interesting to see what happens with bots designed specifically for this type of platform, such as Facebook Messenger.

6) The blockchain in digital advertising

Although it was the bitcoins that made the average user hear for the first time about the blockchain or chain of blocks, the truth is that this technology is not the only one.
